As a new inspector, your phone is more than just a tool – it’s your secret weapon. Every call could be a potential client, so how you answer can make or break your business.
In the latest Ride Along podcast, we get advice from two pros who have turned phone calls into full-blown success stories. Khurram Shahzad, founder of Digilatics, built a thriving digital marketing business by mastering client communication and growth strategies. Harmony Brown, the mastermind behind Greenworks Inspections, started with a vision and turned her company into the largest inspection firm in Texas. If anyone knows how to grow a business from scratch, it’s these two – and it all starts with answering the phone.
Always answer the call – don’t ghost them
When you’re running the show solo, you can’t afford to let calls slip through the cracks. Let’s face it, clients and agents won’t wait – they’ll move on to someone else. Whether you’re in the middle of an inspection or grabbing a coffee, make sure you’re ready to answer or have a system to ensure no calls go unanswered. Every ring is an opportunity!
Keep the convo simple and solid
The trick to winning over clients on the phone? Make sure they know you’ve got it together. They don’t need your life story – they need to feel confident you’ll get the job done. Keep it professional but personable. Let them know you’re an expert, but without making it sound like you’re reading from a script. Keep the jargon to a minimum – just give the facts in a friendly, confident tone.
Handle business on the fly
Your phone skills are a game-changer, especially when you can handle questions or concerns right then and there. No one likes the runaround. Have your info ready, answer their questions on the spot, and make booking as easy as saying “yes.” The more you simplify things, the more likely you’ll turn that call into cash.
Speed wins – don’t let them hang up without a solution
You’re busy, but so are your clients. When someone calls, they’re ready to book. Don’t drag it out with unnecessary back-and-forth. Address their needs swiftly, get them booked, and seal the deal before they start considering their other options. Efficiency keeps the phone ringing, and your calendar packed.
